Hello and Welcome to the blog of Models for Charity! We would like to introduce ourselves…
We are an organization of professional men and women in the Triangle who raise money for local charities through modeling. Michelle Congleton founded Models for Charity in 2009 with a vision of a charity which could connect fashion and modeling with the areas in and surrounding Raleigh, North Carolina. Our Models team consists of local business owners, entrepreneurs, as well as some college students who share a common goal of using their talents to benefit Triangle charities that need our help.
We are a pass-through charity with 3 main purposes: HOST, VOLUNTEER, and GIVE BACK. We benefit these charities by hosting fundraisers, volunteering and attending fundraisers by other organizations. Additionally, each Model that participates in any paid event agrees to donate 25% of income earned at that event to a local charity. There are many ways to give and offer support to those who need us and we hope our unique concept will encourage everyone to find a way to get involved. Our members are not all models. Some of our members are also involved behind the scenes whether it be through production, DJ’ing, photography, makeup artistry, choreography, designers, fashion students, and more.
Our Mission Statement is ”To raise money for Triangle charities that need our help.”
We have our annual anniversary show in January of each year which allows us to fund our budget while also giving back to a featured charity. It also provides for a debut of some of the area’s hottest new fashions from local boutiques. Every year it gets bigger. This year’s was no different and it was a great success. We had great turnout and it was key having a speaker from the charity to tell our attendees all about its mission. We raised about $6,000 for InterAct.
We have also continued to model and participate in Redress Raleigh; fashonSPARK and Fashion Week; senior design shows for schools like Meredith College and NC State among others; the Me Fine Gala; and assist other organizations that call upon us. We love to support local boutiques and designers and appreciate their endless support as well. Additionally, we have begun to do First Fashion Fridays, inspired in part by Raleigh’s own First Friday art walks, at various venues downtown and each event features one boutique, food from a local restaurant, and raises money for a designated charity. We also conduct monthly food drives for the Urban Ministries of Wake County. If you think we can help your organization in some way shape or form, we’d love to hear about other opportunities.
